A Thai voice phishing criminal organization that stole billions of won by impersonating the Financial Supervisory Service and others was arrested.
Seodaemun Police Station in Seoul said on the 19th that it arrested seven members, including call center managers, for allegedly stealing a total of 7.785 billion won from 38 victims by impersonating the Financial Supervisory Service and the prosecution.
According to the police, they are accused of extorting the victims' money by impersonating the FSS and the prosecution from June to October last year to induce withdrawal.
They reportedly approached the victim and tricked him by saying, "I'm an employee of the Financial Supervisory Service, but you should open a fake bank account in your name to abuse it for fraudulent crimes and apply for property protection," and "If you collect your assets in one place and withdraw them and deliver them, I will return them after inspection."
The victims, who felt anxious, followed their instructions and eventually failed.
Police confirmed that A, in his 40s, a call center team leader, entered Korea and arrested him at the check-in counter at Incheon International Airport in October last year after obtaining an arrest warrant. Afterwards, six more suspects who worked as call center counselors were arrested under the direction of A.
