As crimes using artificial intelligence (AI) technology have increased rapidly, the government has officially launched a cross-ministerial consultative body to systematically respond to them. Related ministries such as the Korea Communications Commission, the Ministry of Science and ICT, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Justice, the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family, the Financial Services Commission, the Fair Trade Commission, the Personal Information Protection Commission, the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety, and the National Police Agency gathered.

On the 26th, the US Communications Commission held a kick-off meeting of the 'AI Crime Response Committee' and discussed the 'Comprehensive AI Crime Eradication Response Plan' and 'How to Establish an Integrated AI Crime Response System', which have been prepared through three working-level meetings.

Regarding the launch of the consultative body, a U.S. official said, "As AI abuse crimes, such as deepfake sexual exploitation, AI false and unfair advertising, and AI financial fraud, are closely related to various fields and services such as online platforms, finance, telecommunications, personal information, investigations, and international cooperation, organic cooperation and joint responses between related ministries are important."

"The 'Comprehensive Response Plan to Eradicate AI Crimes' discussed at the meeting contains organic countermeasures at the government level that encompasses the entire response process, including AI crime prevention, detection and blocking, investigation and crackdown, damage recovery, and recurrence prevention, and related ministries are focusing on more effective response to AI crimes by linking their expertise and policy measures," he explained.

In particular, related ministries agreed on the necessity and implementation plan of a regular integrated response system that can AI crime information more quickly and jointly analyze and respond to related signs.

"The development of AI technology brings new opportunities as well as new risks," said Ko Min-soo, a standing member of the US Communications Commission who presided over the kickoff meeting. "As it is difficult to respond to crimes that abuse AI technology only with the efforts of any one agency, related ministries will work closely to prevent damage to the people and create an environment where AI can be used with confidence."

Meanwhile, the U.S. Committee will announce the "Comprehensive Response Plan to Eradicate AI Crimes" jointly prepared by related ministries in the future after consultation with the National AI Strategy Committee.
