Back Mp1St As Wardogs Hit 3M Sales, Devs Take Forced Time Off to “Reset,” as Next Part Will Be “Spicy”
Developer Bulkhead Interactive seems to have snatched the title of “ big thing” when it comes to video games with Wardogs.
The tactical all-out warfare first-person shooter is now out in early access on Steam, and has since garnered a staggering 54,000 “Very Positive” reviews on the platform.
Not only that, but it’s also a huge hit commercially, as the game has now reached over three million units sold. But it seems this milestone also presented new challenges of their own, which studio CEO John Brammer talked recently.
Wardogs Ordered a Mandatory Holiday Off for Devs to Recharge and Reset
In an acknowledgment on X (formerly Twitter). Bulkhead Interactive CEO John Brammer mentioned they were overwhelmed by the response due to the devs fending off DDoS attaccks and “bottom feeder cheaters.”
Brammer said, “Once again, I feel really lucky. But I have to be honest; We have been a bit overwhelmed with the response, and I mean it literally.. it feels like we’ve spent our whole time fighting bottom feeder cheaters and constant DDOS attacks…”
Coupled with the exhaustion of launching the game in early access, Brammer gave a mandatory holiday to the devs, stating, “With the sheer amount of physical and mental exhaustion from the last few weeks.. we decided to take a bit of a reset- not everyone but a good chunk of the team have been forced to use holiday this week. Thats why we’ve been “officially” quieter.. during said holidays, most people had to work a fair bit!”
The studio CEO mentioned that this isn’t them resting on their laurels, but more of them taking finishing a sprint and taking a breather to prepare for a marathon.
The statement talks the future of the game and their outlook: “We feel a bit out of control with how big things have gone and how much extra security we have been forced to do. But I still believe in our plan and ask you to believe in our team,” Brammer said.
“The part of this journey is going to get spicy, we wont have fixed everything, people will begin to say we aren’t listening, you may even see people start to panic player count! But we’re here for the long haul, we’re in a position where we can try make 1.0 and beyond exactly what we want it to be, no compromises, that’s the dream (sic) right?” Brammer continued.
Finally, the studio chief, who also worked as Executive Producer of Wardogs, thanked the fans for their support, and admitted that while they might not get everything right, they will change for every season “to keep it fresh and to keep trying new things.”
Speaking of new things, more info Season 2 will be revealed this coming week, so stay tuned.
What makes Wardogs’ success even more impressive is that they reached three million units sold just on PC alone, as the console versions won’t be out until 2028 at the soonest.
