Bangladesh Has Modernized Its Police Force: Home Minister

Bangladesh has successfully modernized its police units to meet the demands of the contemporary world, according to Minister Salahuddin Ahmed.

The Minister made these remarks on Wednesday, July 8, while attending the 5th United Nations Chiefs of Police Summit at the UN headquarters in New York.

Addressing the assembly, Minister Ahmed stated that security challenges in the modern world are becoming increasingly complex. He emphasized that the rapid evolution of technology and the cross-border networks of criminal organizations necessitate a fundamental shift in traditional policing methods.

"To effectively tackle any future situation, Bangladesh has transformed its police units into a modern and up-to-date force," the Minister said.

"We have significantly enhanced the capacity and integration of specialized units, including SWAT, Bomb Disposal, Cyber and Organized Crime Investigation, Forensic experts, Immigration Police, and Intelligence-Led Policing systems."

Proposing Global Innovation During the summit, the Minister proposed the establishment of a "UN Police Knowledge and Innovation Network."

He suggested that this platform would allow member states to systematically exchange expertise, best practices, and technological advancements to improve global policing standards.

Furthermore, in response to climate change-related security threats, the Minister proposed the organization of an annual environmental policing conference to strengthen international cooperation and preparedness.

He concluded by making a fervent appeal to the global community to build a UN Police force that is adaptable, innovative, and committed to peace and humanity.

International Recognition The summit was attended by ministerial-level representatives from various UN member states, alongside UN Under-Secretaries-General for Peace Operations (DPO), Operational Support (DOS), and Political and Peacebuilding Affairs.

The Minister’s visionary proposals and Bangladesh's steadfast commitment to global peace were highly praised and welcomed by world leaders in attendance.
