Bank Of Baroda Allegedly Hacked? X User Claims 1TB Customer Data Leaked On Dark Web

Bank of Baroda could be facing fresh security concerns after an X user claimed that a hacker has allegedly leaked around 1TB of sensitive bank data on the dark web. These allegations were shared by X user Srikanth, who tagged the bank, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), and the government’s cybersecurity awareness handle Cyberdost while requesting the authorities to investigate the matter.

It is noteworthy that the claims have not been officially verified and the bank has not confirmed any breach of its internal systems at the time of writing.

Srikanth wrote on X, "Root folder of the data dump of @ bankofbaroda #Databreach by threat actor. More verification links in the thread. The link is live. This is SOS @Cyberdost @RBI."

His post also includes screenshots and a link to another X account, Dark Web Intelligence, which claimed that a threat actor published samples of the alleged data along with download links.

According to the post, the attacker claims to possess nearly 1TB of data related to Bank of Baroda customers and banking operations. The Dar Web Intelligence account said, “🇮🇳 India — Threat Actor Claims 1 TB Bank of Baroda Data Leak."

Moreover, the account further claimed that leaked information allegedly includes personal and corporate banking records, covering savings and current accounts, loan records, NetBanking users, NRO and corporate banking services, customer support information and branch records.

Notably, the post also alleges that sample files contain customer forms with identity details, information and account-related data. However, it also noted that the source of the data and the method used to obtain it have not been disclosed.

In another post, Srikanth highlighted that the alleged leaked files contain more than just KYC documents. He tweeted, “More sample data. Goes beyond KYC docs. Tonnes of internal audit data available. Each of it contains account opening forms - with names, photo, UID etc."

At the time of publishing this story, Bank of Baroda has not publicly confirmed or denied the latest alleged data leak, and there is no official statement from the RBI regarding the claims.
