BERNALILLO, N.M. — A cyberattack hit the Town of Bernalillo, making most of its online services inaccessible, officials confirmed Thursday.

Over the weekend, the town discovered what they believed was an internet outage. A closer inspection found it was a “full-blown cyberattack” that required action to prevent any further damage, according to mayor Jack Torres.

The town is working with the FBI, the New Mexico Office of Cybersecurity and third-party experts in the field to investigate the attack and get services restored as quickly and safely as possible.

“We’ve been working around the clock to ensure that our public safety and critical services stay up and running and are not compromised as a result of this attack”, Torres said.

While this is going on, the town is waiving late payment fees. They also won’t disconnect services. You can still make a payment in-person with cash, check or credit card at the town’s administrative offices. They’re open from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. You’ll need your statement or account number and payment method.

You can also pay with credit card by phone at 505-771-7120 or 505-771-7122.
