Frequent timeouts and ‘request limit exceeded’ messages disrupted Discover and official feeds, leaving many users unable to load popular streams. Engineers are investigating.

As mentioned by Techcrunch

On Thursday Bluesky continued to face outages in the operation of the website and mobile app, which, according to COO Rose Wang, are explained by a denial-of-service attack.

According to updates on the service status page, the issues began around 2:42 PM Eastern Time and are ongoing.

The Bluesky website and app load sometimes, but often with errors or significantly slower speeds, limiting access to content.

For example, navigating to a particular feed displays the message: “This feed is currently experiencing heavy traffic and is temporarily unavailable. Please try again later. Server message: Request rate limit exceeded.”

Popular feeds, such as Discover or the Bluesky team’s official feed, are encountering this problem, while users’ personal feeds may load.

Other scenarios include errors when viewing a user’s profile, prompting a page refresh.

Oh, our services are running quite slowly this evening.

Later, Brian Newbold, Bluesky’s protocol engineer, noted around 3:46 PM Eastern Time: “Oof, our services are currently running quite slowly.”

The company has not yet provided an official explanation for the slowdown, nor announced an expected time for a fix. It is also known that Bluesky did not respond to requests for .

Outages affect Bluesky, but other communities that run their own infrastructure on the same protocol continue to operate as of today.

The situation shows that even in a decentralized ecosystem, outages are possible, but developers continue to work toward stabilizing the services.

It’s not just you – Bluesky is (sorta) down
