City of Radford experiencing internet outage after possible 'data incident'
RADFORD, Va. – The City of Radford is experiencing an internet outage due to a possible “data incident.”
The city posted the incident on around 7:30 Tuesday night.
According to the city’s post, the incident impacted various city departments. City leaders said as soon as they became aware, they immediately engaged cybersecurity professionals, legal counsel and state and federal law enforcement to investigate and fix the problem.
A statement from the city posted on social media reads, “We want you to know that the City takes information security seriously and is taking steps to strengthen our security posture and protect City data.”
All office emails and most phone lines are not available at this time.
911 and the non-emergency communication center are available. You can reach the non-emergency line by calling the following numbers:
For water, sewer or electric emergencies after 5 p.m. call 540-432-3945.
Radford Transit and the sheriff’s office are not affected.
Limited services are available through the Commissioner of the Revenue, City Manager’s Office, and the utility and billing department.
The investigation is ongoing.
