Clio, Mich., Schools Targeted by Phishing Scam

An unauthorized user has been sending phishing emails to parents of Clio Area Schools students using a district account. The district's technology team suspended the account and is investigating the issue.

(TNS) — Clio Area Schools is cautioning parents phishing emails that were sent out from a district account.

“We want to make you aware of a cybersecurity incident that occurred on Oct. 7, 2026, involving a compromised district account,” reads a letter by Zachary Whitam, the district’s director of technology.

The letter further states, “Unfortunately, the phishing email was sent to a number of recipients from that account.”

The district’s technology team immediately suspended the account and started an investigation into the matter.

“We are continuing to review the incident to determine the scope and ensure that appropriate safeguards are in place,” the letter reads.

Anyone who received a suspicious email from

on Oct. 7 is directed to not click any links or open any attachments.

“The safety and security of our students, staff, and school network remain a top priority,” the letter reads. “We are committed to protecting the digital resources our students use for learning and research.”
