The Revolut data breach, the biggest story in the world of compliance this week, has highlighted potentially one of the most effective forms of fraud: fake law enforcement data requests.
Revolut handed over its customers' personal details, including copies of their documents, postal addresses and bank and Bitcoin transaction history, following a fake government data request.
It has now been revealed that the official email domain used to request customer data from Revolut came from an Italian public sector agency.

UK AML STRATEGY: The UK government yesterday launched its new Anti-Money Laundering and Asset Recovery (AMLAR) Strategy for 2026 to 2029.
As part of this, the UK announced a £550 million crackdown on money laundering through high-street businesses, such as barbers and vape shops, which allegedly serve as fronts for organised crime.
