Law Enforcement Can Bypass iPhone Reboot Feature, New Tool Revealed A leaked video claims Magnet Forensics has developed a tool, GrayKey Preserve, that allows law enforcement to bypass Apple's inactivity reboot feature on iPhones. This feature, introduced in November 2024, automatically reboots devices after 72 hours of inactivity to protect sensitive data. The new tool enables police to freeze iPhones in a state that allows easier access to data, even if the device is locked. It also includes a mode to preserve data that would otherwise be deleted after a set period. The video, intended for law enforcement, suggests that this technology could significantly enhance forensic capabilities. The implications of this development raise concerns about privacy and data security for iPhone users. No specific CVEs or technical details about the exploit have been disclosed in the reporting. 4 sources 37
