Customers Could Get Paid In Krispy Kreme Data Breach Settlement: How To File Claim
Krispy Kreme customers could receive cash after some claimed their private information was exposed in a data breach.
The doughnut shop chain has agreed to a $1.616 million settlement in a class action lawsuit over the breach that was discovered on Friday, Nov. 29, 2024. Krispy Kreme has denied wrongdoing or liability but agreed to settle the case.
The lawsuit claims that the data breach exposed private information such as names, dates of birth, Social Security numbers, and financial account access information. People could receive payments if they live in the US and were sent a notice saying their info may have been compromised.
Anyone eligible can receive a $75 cash payment, though the amount could change depending on how many valid claims are filed. Class members may seek up to $3,500 for fraud, identity theft, and other losses if they provide proof.
Claims must be submitted on the settlement's website or through the mail by Monday, June 22. People must object to the settlement or exclude themselves by Saturday, June 6.
Class members who do nothing won't receive a cash payment. They will receive one year of credit monitoring and give up their legal rights tied to the released claims.
A final settlement approval hearing is scheduled for Monday, July 6.
