CVE Alert: CVE-2026-83550 – Red Hat

Redpacketsecurity •admin • October 6, 2026

A flaw was found in postgres-exporter. Due to the blank import of `net/http/pprof`, debug endpoints are exposed on the unauthenticated metrics listener. A remote attacker within the cluster network can access these endpoints. This allows for information disclosure, potentially revealing process arguments, full goroutine stacks, and sensitive data like database connection strings or passwords from heap dumps. Additionally, repeated CPU profiling through these endpoints can lead to a denial of service.

**Risk verdict:** Treat this as high priority wherever the metrics listener is reachable from untrusted cluster workloads; exploitation-status and probability flags were not supplied, so urgency cannot be calibrated further.

**Why this matters:** Debug output may expose process details and secrets that help attackers target databases or move towards other systems. Repeated profiling requests could also degrade availability of the monitoring component and disrupt operational visibility.

**Most likely attack path:** An attacker needs network adjacency to the cluster, but no account or user action; the low-friction route is to send requests directly to the listener’s debug endpoints. The impact appears confined to the affected service’s security scope, although any recovered credentials could support subsequent access elsewhere.

**Who is most exposed:** OpenShift or Kubernetes deployments where the exporter’s metrics port is reachable by workloads beyond the trusted monitoring stack are most at risk.

Alert on requests to `/debug/pprof/` paths on the metrics port, especially from non-scraper pods.

Review exporter access logs, if enabled, for repeated or unusually large profiling requests.

Monitor exporter CPU and memory spikes alongside missed or delayed Prometheus scrapes.

workload logs and secrets-handling systems for exposed connection details or credentials.

Mitigation and prioritisation

Apply the vendor’s fixed release when available; confirm the deployed image is no longer affected.

Until patched, use a NetworkPolicy to allow ingress only from trusted monitoring components.

Disable or remove debug endpoints where operationally feasible.

Check for unexpected access and rotate any potentially exposed credentials; stage changes to avoid interrupting monitoring.
