CVE Alert: CVE-2026-97676 – IBM

Redpacketsecurity •admin • October 7, 2026

IBM Langflow OSS 1.0.0 through 1.12.2 could allow a remote authenticated attacker to execute arbitrary code due to improper neutralization of special elements used in code, resulting in a sandbox escape.

High risk: an exposed deployment could be compromised remotely by an authenticated user; exploitation urgency cannot be confirmed because KEV, SSVC, PoC and EPSS data were not supplied.

Successful exploitation could give an attacker control over the application runtime, enabling theft or alteration of data and disruption of hosted workflows. A compromised instance may also expose credentials or connected services, making it a stepping stone to broader business impact.

### Most likely attack path

An attacker needs network access and a low-privilege account, but no additional user action; the path is therefore realistic wherever accounts are obtainable or shared. The stated scope indicates impact is within the vulnerable security authority, although lateral movement could follow if runtime credentials or network access are over-privileged.

### Who is most exposed

Prioritise internet-accessible visual AI/workflow builders, shared development instances, and deployments connected to sensitive data, model endpoints or internal services.

Review authentication and application logs for unexpected workflow edits or execution.

Investigate child processes, shell activity, or unusual outbound connections from the service runtime.

Look for new files, altered workflow definitions, or unexpected access to environment secrets.

Correlate anomalous activity with low-privilege account logins.

### Mitigation and prioritisation

Upgrade to the vendor-recommended fixed release; confirm the deployed package and image are actually updated.

Restrict network access to trusted users and networks; disable public exposure where unnecessary.

Rotate credentials accessible to the runtime and review its permissions and outbound connectivity.

Test the upgrade in staging, then expedite production rollout; monitor closely during changeover.

Confirm KEV, SSVC, PoC and EPSS status to refine urgency; their absence here leaves exploitation likelihood uncertain.
