Cyberattack closes some Murray County offices: Residents struggle with tax and tag needs

MURRAY COUNTY, Ga. — Residents of Murray County are raising concerns technical issues in the county government after a recent cyber attack.

While early voting has not been affected, some residents say they are having a hard time taking care of their tax and tag needs.

Four Murray County offices have signs on their doors showing that they are closed while the government deals with a cyber attack.

The tax commissioner’s office is one of the offices currently closed.

According to Murray County officials, it’s set to re-open once the network is restored.

Residents like Cory Caldwell are just hearing the closures when they try to do county business.

Others, like Heather Nichols and Lisa Harrison, worry how long restoration could take.

Harrison says her friend is concerned property taxes.

The sheriff’s office confirms their operations were also impacted, but they are not concerned with expired tag violations at the moment.

One area of operation that isn't affected? Early voting for the upcoming primary election.

Officials with the election commission tell us that while turn out is low, voters can still cast a ballot despite the cyberattack.
