The court observed that the defendants allegedly used AI technology to manipulate Sharma’s images, voice and other personality attributes in doctored videos

The Delhi High Court has ordered Meta and Google to remove pages and YouTube channels featuring deepfake videos of India TV Chairman Rajat Sharma, as per a decree dated August 24, 2026.

Justice Jyoti Singh mandated that the companies acknowledge removal requests within 24 hours and act on them within 36 hours, naming seven pages and two YouTube channels involved.

The court noted that AI technology was allegedly used to manipulate Sharma's images and voice, along with unauthorized use of India TV's trademarks and copyright infringement.

Sharma and India TV filed the suit in 2024, leading to an ex parte order against several defendants, with provisions for flagging additional infringing content and pursuing trademark status under the Trade Marks Act, 1999.

The Delhi High Court has directed Meta and Google to remove pages and YouTube channels allegedly carrying deepfake videos of India TV Chairman Rajat Sharma.

According to reports, Justice Jyoti Singh issued the direction in a permanent injunction decree dated August 24, 2026, directing Meta and Google to acknowledge removal requests within 24 hours and take action within the 36 hours.

The order names seven pages - TAMARA DOC, Indian Medical Association, New Convivio, Travinin, The Hope of Your Joints, LEGEND MAP 62 and MESONERO SOTO - along with two YouTube channels, THE INDIAN NEWS TODAY and Sone Chandi Ka Bhav.

The court observed that the defendants allegedly used AI technology to manipulate Sharma’s images, voice and other personality attributes in doctored videos. It also took note of allegations involving the unauthorised use of India TV’s registered trademarks and copyright infringement.

According to the order, Sharma and India TV filed the suit in 2024, following which several defendants were restrained by an ex parte order. Four YouTube channels were later impleaded. Google subsequently terminated THE REAL REPORT and JSR NEWS, while THE INDIAN NEWS TODAY and Sone Chandi Ka Bhav remained under review.

The court has also allowed Sharma and India TV to flag any subsequently discovered URLs or content to Meta and Google if they involve alleged misuse of Sharma’s identity or personality rights, or copyright and trademark violations.

The order allows the plaintiffs to pursue a separate suit seeking well-known trademark status for India TV’s trademarks under the Trade Marks Act, 1999.
