Drones struck the industrial zone of Sterlitamak in Russia’s Bashkortostan Republic on April 15, triggering explosions and a fire at one of the enterprises in the city, a key center of Russia’s chemical and petrochemical industry, local authorities and monitoring channels reported.

The head of Bashkortostan, Radiy Khabirov, confirmed a drone attack on the industrial zone and said debris fell on the grounds of one enterprise, causing a fire.

Sterlitamak hosts the Sterlitamak Petrochemical Plant, which produces ionol — an additive for aviation fuel and lubricants used in military equipment — as well as other facilities manufacturing components for Russian aviation, missile technology, explosives, gunpowder and ammunition, according to Andrii Kovalenko, head of the Center for Countering Disinformation at Ukraine’s National Security and Defense Council.

The town is located approximately 1,400 kilometers from the Ukrainian border. Videos and photos circulating online showed explosions, fires and smoke over the area.

Monitoring channel Exilenova+ reported strikes by Liutyi drones and hits on factories.
