Dutch bitcoin broker Bitonic hacked, funds stolen

Dutchnews.Nl • October 27, 2026

Dutch bitcoin broker Bitonic has been hacked and “small amounts” of cryptocurrency were stolen from customers, according to emails obtained by broadcaster NOS.

The hack took place on Sunday night, and all customers were immediately logged out of their accounts as a precaution. Bitonic says the vulnerability that led to the hack has since been fixed. Three customers lost money and have been fully compensated.

Other customer data could have been accessed during the attack, the company says, though there is no evidence of this yet.

Crypto stored offline on hard drive wallets, known as “cold storage”, remained unaffected.

Bitonic says it will closely monitor all transactions made online for the time being, potentially slowing down any trades.

The hack is the latest blow to the Dutch crypto market after a Rotterdam court declared Knaken, a Netherlands-based crypto platform, bankrupt in July. Prosecutors found that €7 million in customer funds had gone missing.
