“The attacks this year and what they're focusing on- it's our mind. It's the biggest computer in the world, right?" said Aaron Rose, the Security Architect Manager at Check Point Software Technologies.

In an interview with The National News Desk on Thursday, Rose said there is a difference now from election interference campaigns of the past.
"So have you ever heard of this thing called AI?" Rose asked facetiously.
The report, entitled "2026 Midterm Election Threat Outlook," said the main strategy involves “distributing staged or deceptively edited political content designed to amplify distrust, deepen polarization, and increase narrative confusion.”
Major attempted attacks have already been launched from a "who’s who" of U.S. adversaries - Russia, China and Iran.
Check Point found the most persistent election-related threat is phishing because it's cheap and effective, with 82% of malicious file attacks occurring over email, and artificial intelligence assisting in making some of these attacks more believable.

According to Check Point's research, the Democratic fundraising group “Act Blue” was recently exposed with 9,500 leaked credentials. The Republican fundraising platform "Win Red" was also targeted, with 6,500 leaked credentials.
