Eleven of 17 Starlink antennas were deliberately set on fire at a secure site near Sofia by two masked individuals, Ivaylo Mirchev of the "Yes, Bulgaria " party said in a post, questioning the response of Bulgarian security services to suspected sabotage linked to Russia.
The antennas belong to SpaceX’s Starlink communications system and provide a key connection to satellites in space that are also being used in the war in Ukraine.
Mirchev criticized the lack of public information the incident, saying the Interior Ministry had not reported it and that it had received no media coverage.
“The Ministry of Interior has not reported the incident, nor has the media - it is as if it never happened. Just days ago, at a meeting of the Consultative Council for National Security (CCNS), the head of the State Agency for National Security (SANS) assured me that counter-intelligence was working very actively to counter Russian-linked sabotage. Clearly, they are not doing a good job,” Mirchev wrote.
He questioned whether partner agencies had warned Bulgarian authorities a possible attack on the site, whether the country’s security services had prior knowledge of the planned sabotage and what steps they had taken. He also asked whether police vehicles arriving at the location in recent hours represented a case of “too little, too late.”
Mirchev said he and his colleague Bozhanov had filed parliamentary inquiries with the State Agency for National Security and the Interior Ministry, adding that they would provide more information in Parliament the following day.
The incident follows a similar act of sabotage against a Starlink ground station in Poland on September 23, 2026. Polish prosecutors are officially investigating the possibility that the perpetrators acted on instructions from Russian special services.
Polish Interior Minister Marcin Kierwiński announced at 6:40 p.m. that two Turkish nationals had been detained in Germany on suspicion of setting fire to the Starlink station in Poland.
The arrests were conducted by Germany’s Federal Criminal Police Office (BKA), acting on information gathered by Polish police, the ABW counterintelligence agency and the prosecutor’s office.
