Flying Blind
92% of organisations already use AI beyond the pilot stage. Yet, only 16% have a complete, up-to-date inventory of their AI assets.
AI moves faster than the governance designed to manage it. Drawing on evidence from 250 senior decision-makers at UK organisations with 1,000 or more employees across financial services, legal, healthcare, and the public sector, Flying Blind maps the distance between what organisations believe their AI governance achieves and what is actually happening in reality across the business. Topics include AI adoption and visibility, board oversight, incident management, external scrutiny and investment.
The question is not whether you have a gap. It’s whether you know how big it is.

Most organisations believe governance is keeping pace. The evidence tells a different story.
Enterprise AI has outgrown the pilot stage and entered the machinery of organisations. It’s changing how work is done, how decisions are made, and increasingly, how systems act without a human in the loop. But governance, in most cases, has not moved with it.
More than half of the leaders we spoke to believe their governance has kept pace with AI adoption. Roughly two-thirds are confident they could quickly detect an AI-related incident. That confidence raises a question: where is the evidence?
Incomplete policies, partial visibility, inconsistent board reporting, and known control gaps are not a firm basis for certainty. They are a basis for assumption. Traditional governance works to a human rhythm: policies reviewed annually, forums meeting monthly, audits looking backwards. AI doesn’t work this way: new apps appear in an afternoon, models change overnight and agents act in seconds. The annual policy review will not close that gap.

Our research shows where UK organisations stand. Our benchmarking tool shows where you do.
Our AI Governance Reality Gap Benchmark asks seven direct questions your organisation and returns a benchmarked score against the 250 UK organisations surveyed. The tool then delivers a clear view of where your governance practices are strongest and where gaps are most likely to show.
And it takes less than five minutes.
Benchmarked against the same 250-respondent data set as the Flying Blind report.
AI Score is the intelligent governance layer connecting your AI and ambitions. It exists to close the governance reality gap — the distance between the governance an organisation has designed and how its AI actually operates day to day.
