Foxconn has put a stamp on the fact that a cyberattack has been attempted on its North American factories after the Nitrogen ransomware group claimed it stole 8TB of sensitive data, consisting of Apple project files. The hackers also claimed that they have accessed confidential documents linked to Intel, NVIDIA, Dell, and Google.
According to the reports published by The Register, the hackers said that the stolen information consists of confidential instructions, technical drawings, and internal project documents related to different tech giants like Intel, NVIDIA, Dell, and others. However, it has not been confirmed whether the customer information was actually compromised in the incident.
After identifying the attack, Foxconn's cybersecurity team has launched emergency response measures for production and delivery operations, and the affected facilities are being returned to normal activity slowly and steadily. A Foxconn insider also told The Register that the firm is still probing its internal matter but refused to on certain customer-related allegations made by the ransomware group. Until now, Apple has not made any on the matter.

The Nitrogen ransomware is thought to have been leaked from the Russia-backed Conti 2 ransomware gang. The group's activity has been reported to have commenced in 2023 and has aimed at VMware ESXi systems. For your information, Foxconn could be dubbed one of the key manufacturing partners of Apple, and they develop a large number of hardware products for Apple. Furthermore, Apple has always operated under the policy of sending its suppliers limited technical information pertinent to their manufacturing duties.
