Ukraine Launches Major Drone Strikes Amid Ongoing Conflict with Russia On October 19, 2026, Ukraine launched over 1,000 drones targeting Russian oil facilities, igniting fires at the Petersburg Oil Terminal and Ruchi oil depot, resulting in one death and five injuries. This escalation followed the U.S. resuming intelligence sharing with Ukraine, which Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky expressed gratitude for. In retaliation, Russia conducted at least 76 strikes on Ukraine's energy sector within 24 hours. Tensions escalated as Donald Trump criticized Zelensky's actions, claiming they hinder peace efforts. Additionally, U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent warned Zelensky to be cautious in his accusations regarding Starlink restrictions affecting military operations. Zelensky asserted that Ukraine has reclaimed more territory than Russia has captured this fall, contradicting Russian military claims. The situation remains fluid as both sides continue to engage in aggressive military actions. 2 sources 68
