Inside Vodafone Business' Express Capacity for Data Centres

Datacentremagazine • October 14, 2026

Vodafone Business has launched Express Capacity, a service designed to deliver high-speed transport links to data centres, hyperscalers and telecoms providers within 15 days.

The service provides 100G or 400G optical fibre transport links across selected strategic European routes, aimed at large enterprises, Neocloud providers, hyperscalers and telecoms companies.

A 400G connection can move up to 180 terabytes of data per hour with minimal latency, supporting the volume of traffic now flowing between AI and cloud data centres, factories and offices.

Why Vodafone built the service

Vodafone developed Express Capacity to meet increasing dynamic connectivity demand as organisations enter new markets, interconnect data centres, support sovereign cloud environments and prepare for growing AI workloads.

Long capacity lead times can delay business opportunities, and the company positions the new service as a direct response to that pressure.

Oscar Monteagudo , Carrier Sales and Subsea Business Director, Vodafone Business, says the shift in demand has changed what infrastructure buyers need most.

"The challenge is no longer only capacity, but capacity in the right place, available at the right time," he says.

"Our customers are operating in an environment where infrastructure decisions need to happen faster."

Rapid routes across Europe's digital corridors

Express Capacity runs on Vodafone's European backbone network, using pre-lit routes between carrier-neutral data centres in some of the continent's busiest connectivity corridors.

Vodafone says it will extend the service's reach through this year and into , pushing into regions with renewable energy access and strong international connectivity beyond these established hubs.

The company links this expansion to the European Commission's push to grow computing capacity and strengthen digital sovereignty across the bloc.

Strengthening subsea connectivity

Express Capacity's footprint also connects to key cable landing stations tied into Vodafone's core network, reinforcing access to major subsea cable systems and further enhancing network reach and resilience.

Automation and on-demand delivery

Vodafone is building automation into service build, testing and configuration for Express Capacity, aiming to give customers clearer operational visibility and simpler engagement.

The company frames this as part of a broader network automation strategy, tying into the industry's move towards on-demand connectivity models such as cloud-based Network-as-a-Service.

"Express Capacity has been designed to remove barriers to growth by providing rapid access to scalable, high-capacity connectivity, backed by Vodafone's extensive European network footprint and carrier expertise," Oscar says.

Key partners in Vodafone's data centre ecosystem

Digital Realty and Equinix

Vodafone partners with Digital Realty and Equinix for colocation, giving customers access to more than 165 data centres worldwide. The arrangement lets businesses place infrastructure closer to customers and partners, cutting latency, while Vodafone Business Colocation provides secure, high-performance environments so IT teams can focus on innovation rather than managing infrastructure directly.

Cassava Technologies and Elsewedy Electric

In September 2026, Vodafone Business joined forces with Elsewedy Electric and UK-based Cassava Technologies to form Africa Data Centres Egypt, a joint venture developing and operating data centre infrastructure in Egypt. Once built, the facilities will offer colocation, hosting, interconnection, cloud enablement, managed infrastructure and disaster-recovery services, targeting local businesses, international technology firms, cloud providers and hyperscalers.
