Iran Claims to Have Shot Down US Drone Amid Rising Tensions On October 25, 2026, Iran's army announced that it shot down an US Lucas-type drone over Bandar Abbas, as reported by the semi-official Tasnim news agency. This incident follows a series of confrontations between the US and Iran, including the downing of an US MQ-9 drone over the Strait of Hormuz earlier in the week. The Iranian military stated that the drone was destroyed by its air defense systems, marking the 54th US drone intercepted in recent months. Tensions have escalated following US President Donald Trump's remarks about potential military action against Iran. The situation remains as the US Central Command has prepared options for renewed strikes against Iran. This ongoing conflict has roots in a broader regional war that began with US-Israeli strikes on Iran in February 2026. 4 sources 60
