Iran has seized nearly 1,000 Starlink satellite internet devices and arrested 163 people in a major crackdown, with Tehran raising security concerns over the US-based technology. Iranian Economic Security Police Chief Hossein Rahimi said authorities confiscated 997 Starlink devices and related equipment, along with 15 vehicles allegedly used to transport them. Much of the equipment reportedly entered Iran through western and northwestern borders via Azerbaijan and Iraq's Kurdistan Region. Iranian officials have suggested the devices could potentially be exploited for intelligence gathering, surveillance or other hostile activities. However, there is no independent evidence that the seized Starlink equipment was being used for espionage.
