live-orange UKMTO warns of underreported maritime attacks as Hormuz transits remain 70 percent below pre-war levels The United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) says 12 attacks were reported in its latest weekly reporting period: 10 in the Strait of Hormuz, one in the Gulf and one in the Gulf of Oman. Of the vessels involved, six continued their journeys or reached port, one was lost, and two were disabled or not under command. Damage or outcomes remained unconfirmed in three cases, according to the overview published on October 16. UKMTO warned it was struggling to establish the true number of attacks because most vessels attacked were refusing to report incidents to the agency. Reports received through other sources could not always be verified. Combined inbound and outbound transits through Hormuz remained 70 percent below pre-war levels, it said, cautioning that US-reported facilitated transit figures could not be independently verified.

IRGC says oil supertanker hit mine in Strait of Hormuz, catches fire
Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) navy says a supertanker carrying more than two million barrels of crude oil has struck a sea mine while attempting to cross the Strait of Hormuz through an “unauthorised” route.
The collision caused a huge explosion and a major fire on board the vessel, the IRGC said in a statement reported by semi-official Tasnim news agency.
It alleged that the tanker had turned off all tracking and radar systems, attempting to pass through the strait using deception and with US military support.
‘The Strait of Hormuz is closed’, the IRGC navy warned, adding that vessels violating Iranian regulations would face severe consequences for relying on US backing.
live-orange Over 340 children killed in Gaza since October 2025 ‘ceasefire’, says UNICEF Israeli strikes in Gaza have killed more than 340 children and injured hundreds more since the October 2025 “ceasefire” agreement took effect, a UNICEF spokesperson says. Speaking at a press briefing at the UN headquarters in Geneva, Ricardo Pires said attacks on Palestinians had continued ‘amid the ongoing blockade’ of the Gaza Strip. ‘Attacks over the past two weeks have claimed the lives of five boys and two girls’, Pires said. ‘At least 33 other children have sustained serious injuries.’ Approximately 800,000 children in Gaza remained displaced, he added, most of them sheltering in tents or unsafe buildings. He noted that conditions were likely to worsen in the coming winter months, marking the fourth consecutive year that Palestinian children would endure uninhabitable and inhumane conditions.
