Iranian Supertankers Catch Fire After Mine Strikes in Hormuz Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) reported that two oil tankers, each carrying over two million barrels of crude oil, caught fire after hitting naval mines in the Strait of Hormuz. The vessels reportedly attempted to transit unauthorized routes while having their tracking systems switched off. This incident follows a series of maritime attacks in the area, with the UK Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) reporting 12 attacks in the past week alone. The ongoing conflict between the US and Iran has severely disrupted oil flows through this critical waterway, pushing global oil prices above $100 per barrel. The IRGC has warned that unauthorized vessels will be treated as hostile, and tensions in the region continue to escalate amid military operations. The US has imposed a naval blockade on Iranian oil exports in response to these incidents. 14 sources 63
