The IT system at both of the AZ Monica hospital’s site Antwerp is out of action following a possible cyberattack by hackers. The hospital will neither confirm nor deny whether its IT system has been hacked. All not urgent treatment has been postponed.

The IT system at both the hospital’s sites, Harmonie in the centre of Antwerp and its site in the city’s Deurne district, are down, the hospital’s spokeswoman Sofie Braem confirms.

She cannot yet confirm whether the IT issues are the result of hacking. "Our IT team is currently working hard to find the cause of the breakdown and to resolve it as soon as possible”.

The servers have been turned off as a precautionary measure and this is having a big impact at the hospital.

"Urgent treatment is continuing and of course the patients that were already at the hospital are still being treated. However, non-urgent consultations are being postponed for the time being because we can’t retrieve the information contained on the patients’ digital medical files”, Ms Braem told VRT News.
