KT announced on the 12th that it has launched an information protection advisory committee to preemptively respond to cyber threats that are becoming more advanced due to the acceleration of artificial intelligence (AI) and cloud-oriented digital transformation and to establish an information protection system that customers can trust.

The Information Protection Advisory Committee is an external expert consultative body to effectively respond to the rapidly changing security environment and strengthen information protection governance centered on security constitution and preemptive prevention. It supports the establishment of a global-level information protection system by examining KT's information protection strategies and major policies from an objective perspective and seeking countermeasures against future security threats together.

The Information Protection Advisory Committee is composed of representative experts in Korea that encompass the fields of policy, system, technology, security, industry, service, AI, and zero trust. The first advisors include Park Chun-sik, director of the Korea Zero Trust Security Association, Chung Eun-soo, professor of digital security at Cheongju University, Kwak Jin, professor of cyber security at Ajou University, Yoon Myung-geun, professor of artificial intelligence at Kookmin University, Kim Hong-sun, advisor to Kim and Jang Law Office, Park Chul-joon, professor of computer engineering at Kyung Hee University, and Choi Kwang-hee, advisor to law firm.

In the future, the information protection advisory committee will provide advice to strengthen KT's mid- to long-term information protection strategy and implementation. Key advice is △ Strategy to respond to future security threats such as AI-based attacks and Generative AI abuse △ Policy to introduce and utilize AI security technology △ Establish a zero-trust-based security system and advance the authentication, access control, and monitoring system △ Strengthen a system to respond to cyberattacks such as APT and ransomware △ Measures to prevent infringement and recurrence △ Review the Information and Communication Network Act and global compliance △ Expand cooperation in the industry, academia, and government security ecosystem.

In particular, it plans to focus on securing KT's future threat response capabilities, establishing a zero trust-based security system, and strengthening security by consulting on key areas such as AI security, cloud security, and network security in an environment where AI spread and cloud transition are in full swing.

Meanwhile, KT established a personal information protection advisory committee specialized in the field of personal information protection in the first half of the year and launched the information protection advisory committee to establish governance that specializes in the fields of "information protection" and "personal information protection," respectively.

If the Personal Information Protection Advisory Committee plays a role in advising on personal information protection policies such as the legality of personal information processing, appropriateness of data use, customer information protection, and prevention of personal information leakage, the Information Protection Advisory Committee advises the entire company-wide information security strategies and technology, including AI security, zero trust, cloud security, response to infringement, and security technology innovation. Through this, we plan to strengthen our expertise in the areas of information protection and personal information protection at the same time and lay a more systematic foundation for customer trust.
