Lansing Community College data breach impacts more than 170K people, reports say
LANSING, Mich. (WLNS) — A data breach reportedly hit Lansing Community College in February and allegedly affected more than 170,000 people.
The breach occurred on February 12 and was discovered on February 18 . According to an article published on securityweek.com , LCC notified impacted individuals around one week after the breach was discovered.
A third-party security team determined that hackers gained access to a collection of personal information, including names, addresses, dates of birth, driver's license details and Social Security numbers.
In a letter sent by LCC to impacted individuals obtained by securityweek.com, the college says that "not every affected individual had the same types of information involved. Importantly, we have no evidence at this time that any of your information was removed from our systems or misused."
According to the Office of the Maine Attorney General , 174,307 people were impacted by the breach. LCC is reportedly providing impacted individuals with 24 months of free credit monitoring and identity protection services.
