Macnica launches "ANTERAS DarkWeb," a dark web investigation service that accurately detects leaked information, even targeting unidentified assets discovered by ASM (Agricultural Security Management). This service aims to prevent the misuse of leaked information, a major entry point for ransomware attacks.
Macnica (Headquarters: Yokohama City, Kanagawa Prefecture, Representative Director and President: Kazumasa Hara, hereinafter referred to as Macnica) today announced the launch of "ANTERAS DarkWeb," a dark web investigation service that accurately detects leaked information, including unidentified assets discovered by ANTERAS ASM *1 . This service, part of the "ANTERAS *2 " preventative cybersecurity service lineup, leverages the asset identification expertise cultivated with ANTERAS ASM to provide comprehensive and highly accurate dark web surveys, including assets of overseas branches and group companies that the company itself may not be aware of, and prioritizes countermeasures. This helps prevent the misuse of leaked information, which is a major entry point for ransomware attacks and other threats.
■Background: Leaked information becomes a major entry point for ransomware. In Japan, the cumulative number of ransomware attacks reported over the past five years has reached 1,021 *3 , indicating that many victims are still being affected. While attackers primarily use externally exposed assets such as VPN devices and remote desktop (RDP) connections to gain entry, in recent years there has been an increase in intrusions not only through vulnerable devices but also through patched devices. According to the National Police Agency, more than 40% of the devices identified as entry points had security patches applied *3 , and this figure has remained high since 2023. This suggests that the misuse of legitimate authentication information such as IDs and passwords may be one of the intrusion methods being employed.
Therefore, in order to prevent ransomware attacks, it is necessary to be aware of leaked information circulating on the dark web and to take action before it can be misused. However, the amount of such leaked information is enormous, making it difficult for a company's IT department to accurately and continuously grasp the information relevant to their own company. Furthermore, the likelihood of misuse, the impact on business, and the priority of required responses vary greatly depending on the type of leaked information and the route of the leak. For example, there is a difference in the likelihood of misuse and the impact of damage depending on whether the leaked information is administrator accounts for VPN, AD, or IdP/SS, or authentication information for services used. In addition, if the cause of the leak is infostealer (information-stealing malware), the urgency is higher than leaks from other causes, and the countermeasures will also differ.
As such, given that the risks and responses differ for each type of leaked information, a stopgap approach that addresses each case individually will not only increase the workload but also increase the risk of overlooking issues. Therefore, it is crucial to comprehensively understand the leaked information relevant to your organization and identify "which authentication credentials" and "why" they were leaked, thereby enabling you to implement countermeasures and address the root causes according to priority.
■ Overview of "ANTERAS DarkWeb" "ANTERAS DarkWeb" is a service in Macnica analysts investigate leaked information on the surface web, deep web, and dark web, starting with publicly available assets such as domains and Netblocks related to customers discovered by "ANTERAS ASM," and provide reports that include analysis results on the impact and causes of the leaks.
1. High-precision investigation that includes even previously unidentified assets discovered by ASM. Expert analysts at Macnica 's Security Research Center utilize a wide range of asset information, including previously unidentified assets, discovered through ANTERAS ASM, to accurately identify leaks related to your organization. This makes it possible to understand leaks and intrusion risks originating from assets at overseas locations and group companies.
2. Prioritizing countermeasures based on "type" and "cause of leakage" We analyze leaked information from the perspectives of "information type" and "cause of leakage." We identify risks that should be prioritized based on their impact and potential for misuse. Furthermore, by identifying the cause of the leakage, we can take measures to address the root cause, such as strengthening MFA (multi-factor authentication) and removing malware.
■Future developments Macnica will support the centralized management and response to the two main entry points targeted by attackers: publicly accessible assets and authentication credentials, by combining the continuous monitoring of publicly accessible assets with the visualization of leaked information using "ANTERAS ASM." We will strive to reduce the probability of incidents caused by publicly accessible assets and leaked information by even 1%, and contribute to the realization of preventative cybersecurity for companies.
*1: What is "ANTERAS ASM"? Macnica was among the first in Japan to launch its in-house developed ASM solution in June 2021. "ANTERAS ASM" is an AI-driven tool developed independently developed based on the expertise of the Macnica Security Research Center, and by conducting expert surveys as needed, it achieves accurate and comprehensive investigations. It enables the identification of assets including overseas bases, such as domains and rogue servers that customers themselves are unaware of, and enables effective response from high-risk assets based on proprietary risk indicators that consider attacker trends. Additionally, this solution was renamed from "Macnica Attack Surface Management" to "ANTERAS ASM" starting May 27, 2026. For more details, please visit the website. URL:
*2: What is "ANTERAS"? This is Macnica 's preventative cybersecurity service that supports companies in visualizing, identifying, and addressing their cyber risks before an attack occurs. Under the mission of ANTERAS, "Illuminating risks and becoming a beacon of cybersecurity," Macnica aims to create a society where companies can face cyber risks with sound judgment.
