MCMINNVILLE Ore. (KPTV) - The City of McMinnville said on Tuesday that it is reaching out to people whose data was stolen in a computer security breach back in June and July.
According to the city, on July 15, officials learned “unusual activity” on its network and began to investigate. Through the investigation, officials found that between June 1 and July 18, “certain information may have been accessed and copied without authorization,” the city said.
That information may have included peoples’ names, driver’s license numbers and Social Security numbers.
The city said the investigation was “in-part complete” on Sept. 22.
McMinnville is now mailing notices to people who may have been part of the breach. For anyone who does not get a letter but would like to know if their information may have been stolen, they can call a dedicated help line:
Monday through Friday from 5 a.m. to 5 p.m. Pacific Time
“McMinnville takes this incident and security of personal information in its care very seriously,” the city said in a written release. “McMinnville moved quickly to investigate and respond to the incident. As part of its ongoing commitment to the security of information, McMinnville is reviewing and enhancing its existing policies and procedures related to data privacy.”
