Back Teiss More than 200 GB of Cartoon Network animation files leak online, source unconfirmed
More than 200 GB of internal files tied to the production of Cartoon Network animated series have leaked online, offering a rare look at how popular cartoons were made. How the files were obtained, and whether the full archive is authentic, has not been confirmed.
Posts the leak began spreading across online communities around Oct. 9 and 10. Fans dubbed it the “Classic CN Gigaleak,” and some posts claim the full archive approaches 1 terabyte. Those figures are unverified estimates.
The material reportedly includes Flash projects, editable character rigs, layered Photoshop documents, model sheets, storyboards, animatics, pitch documents, style guides and character files in EPS vector format. Rigs divide a character into movable parts so artists can animate it without redrawing every frame, model sheets show characters from several angles and expressions to keep designs consistent, and animatics show how planned scenes flow before final animation.
The titles named include The Amazing World of Gumball, Adventure Time, Regular Show, The Powerpuff Girls, Dexter’s Laboratory, Johnny Bravo, Foster’s for Imaginary Friends, Ed, Edd n Eddy, The Looney Tunes Show, Duck Dodgers, Garfield, Teen Titans, Robot Chicken and The Grim Adventures of Billy & Mandy. Files from the first two seasons of Gumball allegedly include episode source projects and puppet rigs. Regular Show folders reportedly hold character portraits, size charts, backgrounds and style guides. Adventure Time material is said to total 90 GB, though its exact contents and completeness are unclear.
The files were shared through a Google Drive folder, whose contents were independently verified. The person who released the material also published a master Google Docs document linking to files on a separate sharing platform, which extended the leak to other productions. An anonymous X account called “totallynotaburner” appears to point to a sharing location, but that identifies a distribution point, not a confirmed attacker or the source of the files.
It is not known whether the files came from a compromised company system, an exposed archive, a former worker or another source. No attack method, stolen account or software flaw has been identified, and there is no basis to call the leak a confirmed network intrusion. Some links to the files have already been removed after copyright infringement claims.
The leak surfaced days after Skydance completed its acquisition of Warner Bros. Discovery on Oct. 6, a deal valued at $110 billion that placed Warner Bros., HBO, DC Studios, CNN, CBS News and Cartoon Network under the combined group. Some social media users have speculated that the timing points to a security breach tied to the corporate reorganization.
