The younger sister of North Korean leader Kim Jong Un has rejected United States' allegations that Pyongyang was behind a cyberattack on cryptocurrency exchange Binance.

Kim Yo Jong, department director of the Central Committee of the ruling Workers' Party of Korea, responded on Tuesday to the US Federal Bureau of Investigation's announcement that blamed North Korea for the theft of cryptocurrency valued at 6.3 billion dollars.

In a statement issued through the state-run Korean Central News Agency, she said the claim by the United States was "absurd" and "nothing new."

Kim called it a "grave political provocation" for the US to mislead international public opinion by portraying North Korea as responsible for cybercrimes occurring around the world.

The FBI says a North Korean hacking group known as "TraderTraitor" carried out the attack, and that those responsible are trying to launder the stolen assets.

The FBI is calling on companies related to cryptocurrencies and service providers to block transactions involving addresses linked to TraderTraitor.
