Ongoing Eagle Mountain internet outages caused by cyberattack, provider confirms

Over the past several days, Eagle Mountain residents have been experiencing internet disruptions and even complete outages, something that the internet provider said was caused by a cyberattack. After service being stabilized briefly Saturday night, service was spotty on Sunday, and it went out again on Sunday night. Direct Communications Utah is the internet provider serving much of Eagle Mountain, and in an update to social media on Saturday, it said that the network instability was caused by unusually high volumes of traffic consistent with a distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attack. A DDoS attack floods the network with an overwhelming amount of traffic in order to disrupt or completely shut down service. According to Cloudflare, a company that provides DDoS mitigation services for websites and platforms, this kind of attack is like an unexpected traffic jam clogging up the highway, preventing regular traffic from reaching its destination.
