Police force confirms it has been hit by cyber attack as investigation under way

Dyfed Powys Police said the attack had been identified earlier this month and admitted it had caused “disruption to some non-emergency systems”.

The force said that an investigation is underway and that the incident had been referred to the information commissioners office.

It said that currently it does not believe any public data has been either accessed or compromised.

A statement from the force said: “We can confirm that the force has been subject to a cyber incident which was identified on Monday September 14, 2026. The incident caused disruption to some non-emergency systems.

“Since the incident was identified, an investigation has been ongoing into the circumstances surrounding it, with support from cyber-security specialists and appropriate action taken. Our systems have been subject to precautionary measures while specialist teams investigate the incident and work to restore services safely.

“Dyfed Powys Police remains fully operational, and our response to emergency incidents has not been affected. Telephone (999 and 101) services have not been affected and whilst online and email were unavailable for a period, these have now been restored.

“The Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) has been notified.

“At this stage, our investigation has found no evidence that members of the public’s personal data has been accessed or compromised as a result of this incident.

“We are, however, continuing to investigate whether any information relating to our staff may have been accessed or compromised, and are taking all appropriate steps to protect that information, and will provide appropriate advice to colleagues if required.

“The investigation remains ongoing and is being managed by Tarian through their regional cyber-crime unit, and we continue to monitor force systems closely.

It added: “We understand the potential concern this may cause and want to reassure the public that we have and will continue to take all necessary steps to protect our information and maintain the security of our systems.

“We will provide further updates when we are in a position to do so.”
