Back Quantumzeitgeist QuDef, TTP Bring QKD Security Assurance To Asia-Pacific
A strategic collaboration signed on October 12, 2026, will extend European quantum security expertise into the Asia-Pacific market. QuDef and The Thought Projects will combine QuDef’s SQOUT threat intelligence platform with TTP’s independent Quantum Key Distribution security testing to bolster the security assurance ecosystem for quantum communication technologies. This partnership addresses a critical need for vulnerability assessment, as published attacks demonstrate real-world QKD systems can deviate from established security proofs. “The future of quantum-secure communications will depend on the trust organisations will have in the technology,” said Dr. Bob Dirks, CEO of QuDef.
TTP’s QKD System Evaluation Complements SQOUT’s Security Analysis
QuDef’s SQOUT platform, a threat intelligence system containing 149 documented attack techniques, will soon be available to organizations across Singapore and the wider Asia-Pacific region. The Thought Projects (TTP) will facilitate this expansion, integrating SQOUT with its own independent Quantum Key Distribution (QKD) security evaluation services to offer a comprehensive assurance pathway for quantum communication deployments. This collaboration addresses a growing need for practical security validation as organizations begin to deploy QKD alongside post-quantum cryptography.
The partnership’s approach moves beyond assessing cryptographic protocols to evaluating the security of complete QKD systems, acknowledging that real-world implementations can deviate from theoretical proofs. Published attacks on commercial systems have highlighted this vulnerability, demonstrating the importance of assessing the entire system lifecycle for potential weaknesses.
SQOUT’s risk assessment framework, compatible with the ISO/IEC 27005 standard, evaluates both the likelihood and impact of attacks across the entire kill chain, providing a structured method for identifying and prioritizing vulnerabilities. This assessment is then complemented by TTP’s laboratory evaluations, which test identified attack vectors on actual QKD hardware using white-box, grey-box and black-box testing methodologies. Dr. Bob Dirks, CEO of QuDef, emphasized the critical role of trust in the future of quantum-secure communications.
He explained that organizations need to have confidence not only in the cryptography, but also in the security of systems on which it is running. The combination of QuDef’s threat intelligence and TTP’s evaluation expertise aims to provide that confidence, enabling informed decisions and accelerating the adoption of trusted quantum-safe solutions for governments, critical infrastructure operators and technology providers.
The SQOUT platform itself features a detailed knowledge base, encompassing 123 vulnerabilities, 12 security proofs and data on 124 hardware components and 29 software elements. Interactive modules, including QBuilder for security architecture modelling and QAnalyser for automated “what-if” security analysis, allow users to simulate attacks and assess the resilience of their systems. Flexible deployment options, including both SaaS and on-premises virtual machine installations, cater to organizations with stringent data sovereignty and security requirements.
Lim Han Chuen, Co-Founder of TTP, explained the increasing demand for QKD deployments alongside post-quantum cryptography over the past five years. “Over the past five years, we have seen growing interest in deploying QKD alongside post-quantum cryptography ( PQC ) to secure highly sensitive data,” he said. “QuDef’s SQOUT is a threat intelligence and knowledge platform that enables systematic risk and threat assessments of QKD products.” Combined with TTP’s white-box, grey-box and black-box QKD security evaluation and testing capabilities, they will be able to help their clients achieve a high level of security assurance, QuDef says.
