On Wednesday, MEPs will the sustained threat of Russian satellite interference to planes and ships and the need for Europe to counter spoofing and jamming.
The debate follows revelations that the GPS (Global Positioning System) of a plane carrying European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen was recently disrupted due to an alleged Russian jamming attack. Incidents of GNSS (global satellite system) interference involving commercial aircraft have also been repeatedly reported in recent years, particularly from airlines operating around the Baltic coast and in areas close to Russia’s border.
