Spring Lake Park schools closed after ransomware attack

Aol • April 13, 2026

A ransomware attack targeting Spring Lake Park Schools forced district leaders to cancel class Monday.

"There is no school on Monday, April 13, 2026 due to several school technology systems that are down," the district's website states. "All child care, community education programs and after schools activities are canceled Monday."

The district says its technology team confirmed early Sunday that an outside actor had gained access to some school district systems, and staff immediately shut down all systems to prevent further access.

"Systems that are currently not available include those needed to safely have school on Monday. Safety is a top priority," the district shared.

Law enforcement and third-party cybersecurity experts are responding to the incident and working to restore all systems. The district is expected to provide another update on the situation later Monday.

The incident is the latest in a series of major cyberattacks targeting government systems in Minnesota.

Last week, Gov. Tim Walz authorized the Minnesota National Guard to support Winona County's response to a complex cyberattack. The National Guard was also deployed last year after a major cyberattack on the City of St. Paul .
