ST. JOSEPH COUNTY, Ind. (WSBT) — A group is apparently taking aim at data stored in St. Joseph County.

An investigation by the county's IT department found that there was a hack in an external fax server.

The hack was acknowledged in a post by the group "Handala Hack", taking credit for the breach.

Handala says that they have stolen over two terabytes of data from several county organizations, including the prosecutor’s office, health centers and police forces.

But the County's IT department says the targeted server is cloud-based and is not connected to internal services.

They say that anything that was faxed would potentially have been accessed but assures that information is cached every 20 days.

The department says they've isolated the incident and the compromised account, and are continuing to determine exactly what information was accessed.

They tell WSBT 22 there is no ongoing risk to St. Joseph County residents.

Handala Hack received national media coverage earlier this week after claiming responsibility for breaching FBI Director Kash Patel’s personal email account.
