Strategic Education Data Breach Affects SSNs, Lawsuit Possible

Attorneys working with ClassAction.org are looking into whether a class action lawsuit can be filed in light of the Strategic Education data breach.

As part of their investigation, they need to hear from individuals who had their information exposed in the incident , including those who received notice of the Strategic Education data breach or otherwise believe they are affected.

Strategic Education, which operates workforce development programs and educational institutions including Strayer University and Cappella University, has disclosed a data breach involving unauthorized access to its computer network.

According to a sample notification letter (pictured below), an investigation into the incident determined that the Strategic Education data breach occurred between February 23 and February 25, 2026. A review of the impacted files concluded that Social Security numbers, driver’s license numbers, passport numbers, and names were contained within them.

Though the total number of people involved is not yet known, 100,845 Texas residents , 63,272 South Carolina residents , 8,188 Massachusetts residents , and 2,673 Maine residents have so far been reported as affected.

In addition to Strayer University and Cappella University, Strategic Education operates the Jack Welch Management Institute, Hackbright Academy, Devmountain, Workforce Edge, Sophia Learning, Torrens University, Think Education, and Media Design School.
