Back Vietnam.Vn Strengthening the fight against copyright infringement in cyberspace.
Celebrities are having their photos manipulated to spread misinformation, and large organizations are being targeted for attacks aimed at illegally exploiting their copyrights. These online violations are becoming increasingly complex.
The Cyber Security and High-Tech Crime Prevention Department (A05) of the Ministry of Public Security recently organized a workshop on raising awareness and protecting intellectual property rights in the digital environment. Many solutions were proposed and discussed at the workshop.
Just a few days after its launch, the VTV Prime app – one of the licensed sports streaming apps of Vietnam Cable Television Corporation – was attacked by malicious actors who sent over 300,000 messages within 90 minutes to for, hijack customer accounts, or illegally use the service.
Despite timely preventative measures, according to information provided by VTVCab representatives at the seminar, this copyright infringement has caused significant damage.
Mr. Han Viet Linh (Deputy Head of Office of VTVCab, Vietnam Cable Television Corporation) stated: "Within 90 minutes, the attackers sent SMS messages to VTVCab's VTV Prime system. They sent a large number of SMS messages to customers, and we had to pay nearly 1 billion VND for these messages."
According to A05 representatives, intellectual property violations in the digital environment are becoming increasingly complex, with organized groups using cross-border platforms to conceal their identities and disperse data, making detection and prosecution difficult. However, the authorities' continuous crackdown on copyright infringement rings and networks like Xôi Lạc TV has significantly changed the awareness of both violators and users.
Lieutenant Colonel Trieu Manh Tung (Deputy Director of the Cyber Security and High-Tech Crime Prevention Department, Ministry of Public Security) believes that there needs to be a mechanism for very fast and effective information exchange between rights holders, between state management agencies, and law enforcement agencies to promptly detect and handle violations of copyright and intellectual property laws in the digital environment.
"We need effective coordination and cooperation mechanisms, both technically and legally, to implement and handle violations," Lieutenant Colonel Trieu Manh Tung stated.
To enhance the effectiveness of intellectual property protection in the digital environment, it is necessary to strengthen coordination among state management agencies, law enforcement forces, rights holders, and media outlets.
The Cyber Security and High-Tech Crime Prevention Department and Vietnam Television have agreed to strengthen coordination in information and communication work, contributing to raising social awareness and effectively supporting the prevention and fight against copyright infringement in cyberspace.
