Back Tokenpost Taylor Monahan Says New Ledger Loss Reports She Reviewed Involved Scams
Security expert Taylor Monahan said the newest Ledger loss reports she reviewed involved owners tricked by scams after fears a cellular implant, rather than losses caused by the implant itself.
On a podcast episode Wednesday, Oct. 14, Monahan said the reports she had handled over the few days were not “Ledger drains” caused by the implant. She did not give a count of the reports.
Monahan listed misleading Google ads appearing in Ledger Live searches, fake apps, phishing sites, alarming emails and scam calls as tactics used to target worried owners. “Don’t panic,” she said.
Ledger said an unauthorized component in devices sold through CryptoBilis read recovery phrases from device screens and transmitted them over a cellular connection. The company has said every confirmed implant-related loss involved a device sold through CryptoBilis, the subject of its investigation into reported wallet losses . Ledger has not confirmed a total for the losses.
Ledger Support said Wednesday, Oct. 14, that it will never call users, send them direct messages or ask for their 24-word recovery phrase.
