The attacks on Yandex's data centers have not reduced the number of Russian bots on social media

After the Ukrainian Armed Forces struck Yandex's data centers, a screenshot of Cloudflare data began circulating online, showing that Russian bot activity had dropped to almost zero. However, this data only applies to Yandex's automated data collectors, not bots operating on social networks.

In a new thread on Bluesky, the account antibot4navalny, which tracks state- social media campaigns and troll farm activity, explains that Cloudflare's graph shows automated requests to various websites, not bot activity on social media.

A screenshot shared online shows Yandex bot traffic, which accounts for only a fraction of all automated requests from Russia. However, overall bot activity remains at the same level as before the data center attacks.

The activity that has fallen mostly involves the Yandex engine, which uses crawlers to crawl websites and index the Internet. This is confirmed by reports that more than 80 of the company's digital platforms and related resources had operational problems after attacks on data centers.
