The impact of the iSpoof takedown continues to be felt
The investigation into the iSpoof criminal service, initiated by the CDA and followed by the Metropolitan Police Service’s Operation Elaborate with support from multiple forces, has had a lasting impact. The operation saw the platform’s administrator identified, arrested and sentenced to more than 13 years in prison, alongside over 200 related arrests.
Crucially, the work does not end with the arrests. As cases progress through the courts, further offenders are being held accountable, including a recent sentence of 3 years and 9 months for a Dartford user and two further convictions.
These outcomes demonstrate the long-term value of intelligence sharing and partnership working between the CDA, member banks and law enforcement. Together, we continue to make it harder for criminals to operate and profit from fraud.
