Cyberattack Disrupts Refrigeration Systems in French Supermarkets A cyberattack affected approximately 700 grocery stores across France, causing significant food spoilage as hackers remotely manipulated refrigeration systems. The attack, which occurred on October 10, 2026, led to temperatures in refrigerators soaring to 50 degrees Celsius (122 degrees Fahrenheit) for six hours, resulting in losses estimated at tens of millions of euros for some retailers. French authorities, including the national cybersecurity agency ANSSI, are investigating the incident, which has not yet been attributed to any specific group or individual. The attack exploited vulnerabilities in refrigeration controllers from companies like Danfoss and Copeland, which reportedly had outdated software. Authorities have warned that the attack may still be ongoing and advised stores to secure their systems with VPNs and firmware updates. No ransom demands have been made, indicating the hackers' motives may be to cause disruption rather than financial gain. 7 sources 58
