SEOUL -- A North Korea-linked hacking group has launched a new form of cyberattack that remotely controls Android smartphones and personal computers (PCs) to delete key data, including photos, documents and information, a report showed Monday.
The group, believed to be affiliated with Pyongyang- groups Kimsuky or APT37, infiltrated victims' smartphones and PCs through malware distributed via KakaoTalk and stole account information for Google and major domestic IT services, according to the report by the Genians Security Center (GSC), a South Korean cybersecurity institute.

SEOUL -- A special counsel team additionally indicted former President Yoon Suk Yeol on Monday on charges of aiding the enemy with his alleged dispatch of drones to North Korea last year.
The team, led by special counsel Cho Eun-suk, also charged Yoon with abuse of power in connection with the order, which was allegedly given to provoke the North's retaliation and use it as a pretext for his declaration of martial law in December.

ULSAN -- The for two missing workers entered its fifth day Monday after a boiler tower collapsed at a thermal power plant in the southeastern city of Ulsan.

SEOUL/GUNSAN, South Korea -- A Chinese fishing boat capsized off the southwestern coast Monday, leaving nine people unaccounted for, officials said.
The 99-ton vessel was reported to have turned over some 150 kilometers southwest of the island of Eocheong at 8:53 a.m., the Gunsan Coast Guard said, citing a distress call from the Chinese coast guard.
■ Presidential chief of staff to visit UAE this week for defense industry talks
SEOUL -- Kang Hoon-sik, the presidential chief of staff, will visit the United Arab Emirates (UAE) this week for discussions on defense industry cooperation, the presidential office said Monday.
Kang, who also serves as a special envoy for strategic economic cooperation centered on the defense industry, is expected to have talks with senior UAE officials to bolster bilateral collaboration in the sector, a senior presidential official said.
