Research from FICO reveals a significant rise in AI-enabled fraud attempts across Europe, the Middle East, and Africa (EMEA), with over 36% of financial institutions reporting increases of more than 25% in fraud attempts over the past two years. The complexity of these fraud schemes has become the primary challenge for 52% of EMEA institutions, compared to 40% globally. The study surveyed 202 senior fraud, risk, and technology professionals and highlighted that nearly half of the respondents view effective AI integration as a top challenge. The rise in sophisticated fraud tactics, including social engineering and deepfake attacks, is concerning, with EMEA respondents rating AI-enhanced fraud as a more significant threat than their global counterparts. Additionally, 51% of institutions report false positive rates exceeding 15%, indicating operational challenges in fraud detection.
