The Australian federal government and Microsoft have signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to enhance national cybersecurity and protect critical digital infrastructure. The agreement, signed by Minister Tony Burke and Microsoft’s Lisa Monaco, focuses on secure cloud infrastructure, AI, and critical infrastructure protection. It aims to address the growing threat of hostile state actors capable of disrupting essential services such as telecommunications and energy. The MOU establishes a framework for ongoing dialogue to assess the evolving threat landscape and includes initiatives for enhancing cybersecurity information sharing and response. This partnership follows Microsoft's $25 billion commitment to Australian infrastructure and skills development.
